Common Gems

Had I, by context or constitution,
A rainbow’s color or a star’s shining
I could maybe make some contribution
More than shared sweet dreams and words of pining.

But having only a wealth of soul, I
Can merely give you my poor thoughts and hopes,
And share with you the bounty of the sky -
Twinkling stars, the splintered suns’ golden ropes.

I pray you relish such a common gem
As these poor words of finery I weave,
And that such fabric makes a diadem
That equals any crown you might receive.
